- Ensure
that your telephone line and modem are properly connected
to the computer.
- Double
click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon located inside
the "My Computer" icon.
- Double
click on "Make New Connection" and then select
your modem model.
- Click
"Next" and enter the local
access number .
- Click
"Next" and then click "Finish."
- Create
a shortcut to "My Connection" by right-mouse clicking
the icon and selecting "Create Shortcut."
FOR
WINDOWS NT 4.0
- Double
click the "Dial-Up Networking" icon located inside
the "My Computer" icon.
- Under
the "Phonebook entry" window, click on "More"
and select "Edit entry and modem properties."
- Under
the "Basic" tab, enter your local
access number with the area code and select your modem
model.
- Under
the "Server" tab, be sure that it is set to a
PPP Server and ensure that TCP/IP, "Enable software
compression," and "Enable PPP LCP extensions are
checked."
- Under
security, ensure that "Accept only encrypted authentication"
is checked.
- Click
"OK" to close the window.
- Create
a shortcut to "Dial-Up Networking" by right-mouse
clicking the icon and selecting "Create Shortcut."
FOR
APPLE MACINTOSH (G3/G4/Powerbooks running OS9)
- Under
the Apple menu, go to "Control Panels." Then,
go to "TCP/IP."
- Ensure
that it is connecting via a PPP Server, and that it is configured
"Using PPP Server. Go back to the Apple menu, go to
"Control Panels," then go to "Remote Access."
- Enter
your user i.d., password and your local
access number.
- Click
"Connect." If you are running OS9 or later, a
shortcut is provided in the control strip on the computer's
desktop.
