Changing the Home Directory

Each Web site must have one home directory. If you are setting up both a Web site and an FTP site on the same computer, you must specify a different home directory for each service (WWW and FTP). The default home directory for the WWW service is C:\Inetpub\Wwwroot. The default home directory for the FTP service is C:\Inetpub\Ftproot. You can choose a different directory as your home directory.

To change the home directory

  1. In the IIS snap-in, select a Web or FTP site, and open its property sheets.
  2. Click the Home Directory tab, and specify where your home directory is located. You can select:
  3. In the text box, specify the path name, share name, or URL of your directory.

    note Note    If you select a directory on a network share, you may need to enter a user name and password to access the resource. IUSR_computername is the recommended account. If you use an account that has administration permissions on the server, clients can gain access to server operations. This seriously jeopardizes the security of your network.
