Registry

The configuration registry stores values that define the working environment for the Windows operating system and any services installed on a computer running Windows. You can use graphical tools such as Control Panel, Windows Setup, or the IIS snap-in to change these values, or you can use the Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe) utility included in Windows to modify the configuration registry directly.
